Naval officers' bonds and oaths, 1777-1789.

Series contains bonds sent by appointed naval officers to Treasurer Henry Gardner, Jan. 11, 1777-Nov. 10, 1779 and Aug. 6, 1782; to Treasurer Thomas Ivers, June 21, 1783-Oct. 13, 1786; and to Treasurer Alexander Hodgdon, June 30, 1787-July 20, 1789 (one dated July 26, 1788 went to Comptroller General Leonard Jarvis). Series also contains oath certificates, 1787-1789.

Throughout the provincial period, Massachusetts towns were periodically assessed by the Treasury with taxes for the defraying of public charges and support of the government.
